There seems to be an element of mystery about vintage sizing and how it differs from present day sizing. There are so many variables that can affect the "standard", so we will primarily be focusing on how measurements are taken, how those measurements compare to modern measurements, and how your particular choice of garment should fit to attain a figure flattering effect.

All items that we list will include complete measurements and details in an easy to read chart so you can get right to it for reference instead of having to try to navigate your way through monotonous text where specifics tend to get lost. The easiest recommended method to use to ensure that your item will fit your specific body type is to compare the measurements with something you already have that fits well and is comfortable. It's important to try to select a textile that is as similar as possible to your new item since different kinds of fabric will drape and conform to your shape in different ways. So if your purchase is a silk negligee, compare the measurements to a silken garment you currently have that fits you well, and so forth.

Understanding Measurements

Measurements are usually given as "Bust, Waist, Hips and Length." So if the garment is laying flat and measures 16" from underarm seam to seam, then the FINAL measured sum would be a 32" (total circumference) bust since the measurement would be doubled when wearing as opposed to lying flat. Depending on the garment, there may be other measurements that would influence proper fitting and those specifics will be detailed where applicable. You want to make sure that you achieve a comfortable fit and it will always be noted when the fabric is forgiving (stretches easily) or when it may be inflexible.
